Day 1 of SIP

Woke up at 5am because I was worried about my bank account. And I knew I would get up when the trash man rolled through anyway. After some review and ignoring some of the realities of the near future I decided I am solvent enough to get me to next month.

Today is day two of a three day gig. I am beyond thrilled to have these three days whereas a month ago I would’ve shrugged and said, “well maybe something better will come along”.

A thick fog had descended on my neighborhood overnight, almost as if to insist that we not try to look to far into the distance; that we only be concerned with our immediate surroundings.

On the drive into work today I was wondering if I’d see tanks in the streets or catch the eye of a highway patrolman wondering what I was doing out on the road. Part of me knows that this is not gonna happen. But another part of me thought, well, what if? So I put my Kaiser contractor badge on the seat next to me so I can flash it at any opportunity with a semi-plausible story about my need to go to work.

Interesting things I saw on the road:

  1. person driving alone in their car with a mask on. Is this really necessary? Are they going to get a contagion driving on the freeway? Shaking my head…

  1. Is the mobile dog grooming van allowed to ignore the shelter in place? Are the grooming needs of your dog an essential service? Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see them working and I know they must be hurting for business, but it kind of flies in the face of “essential services“.

The garage is are closed but the parking meters seem to be active at least the electronic ones don’t say that parking is free today. So what’s a worker to do? I decided to take a chance on an open lot that wants me to pay by app. I’m gonna I’m gonna think they’re gonna let this slide today.

Day 2:

Woke up to worry: 1am

Awake for: 20 min

Lucky to have one more job before everything completely shuts down for me. A healthcare webcast about the corona situation. Even the people on camera practiced social distancing.

Silver lining: don’t have to worry about traffic. Is this what it’s like living in a small town?

Honey and I needed a little together time so we practiced the opposite of social distancing. Someone said that the mini boom of babies next year will grow up to be “Quaranteens”.

Day 3:

Woke up to worry: didn’t- too much wine.

Today’s my first real shelter in place day because I don’t have to go to a job.

I’m getting a little annoyed about all the postings about this film or that book that has a contagion plot. Whomever expresses surprise that the story is so much like what is happening right now. Wow. Hey Gomer, the author or creator researched the science on how these things go down, and lo and behold, the science is correct AS SCIENCE TENDS TO BE.

There, I feel better now.
